This is a selection of cards from my self-initiated Tarot Deck project, working title The Hierophanies Tarot.

The Hierophanies Tarot is a specifically LGBT+ deck. It is a modern interpretation of the classic Rider-Waite-Smith deck, with definite queer leanings. The people depicted on the cards themselves are openly queer, and I’ve queered the card meanings.

Minor Arcana

Blades (traditionally swords) rule the air and characters live up high near, or in, the sky- even in space! Blades include needles, pens and other metal instruments, as well as weapons.

Colour scheme: Cold and warm purples, true blues, cold pinks, lemon yellows.

Pentacles rule the earth, and the people of this kingdom are connected to nature and animals- the Knight of Pentacles is even depicted as a plough horse.

Colour scheme: Greens, mustard yellows and golds, burgundy reds, true pink, desaturated accents.

Wands rule fire, and this futuristic kingdom is full of modern source of fire and power: electricity.

Colour scheme: true red, orange reds, warm oranges, golden yellows.

Vessels (traditionally cups) rule water. Merpeople rule this watery realm, making ornate ceramic vessels- even armour- from the damp clay they collect from riverbanks.

Colour scheme: Blues, blue greens, cold oranges and salmon pinks.

Major Arcana

Each of the 21 Major Arcana cards are associated with an element, so thematically I’ve added them to their corresponding suit.
